Shawn’s Painting of the Week, 01/03/10

amy-bull-christThis is a portrait of the late Orange County doyenne Amy Bull Crist. The portrait will be donated to the new educational center in her name being built on her family’s ancestral farm of Hill-Hold. I had only a photocopy of a photo to work from and am not sure I’ve captured her. I would love to hear what you folks think. Shawn@zestoforange.com

Shawn – you definately captured her. Her smile could light up any room.

My one recollection of Amy Bull Christ was back in the mid 1960’s. I attended a small 4 room school (7 or 8 students per class) and she paid a visit. For some reason we all thought we were in trouble or something because there was such a big ‘to do’ about her arrival.

She came bounding into the room, bun and all and we just knew something bad was going to happen. Then she turned and faced our classes and smiled. I’ll never forget it. She was absolutely wonderful.

Your painting brings back the moment when I realized she was a terrific person and not one of us was in trouble!
