Grand Canyon
GRANDIOSE -The grandest of all the canyons of the world is the Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. A powerful and inspiring landscape, that overwhelms our senses through its immense size; 277 river miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and over a mile deep. Recent evidence suggests the Colorado River established its course and carved the canyon at least 17 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River continued to erode and form the canyon to the point we see it at today.

I appeciate Mr Gigli pride in the Grand Canyon but he might want to rethink his position and consider Mexico’s Copper Canyon which, I would argue, is at least twice the size, deeper, staggeringly breathe-taking.

Lovely picture, Rich. Love that slanty afternoon light, especially out there. We used to live in Flagstaff and this time of year we’d be out towards the canyon looking for a tree. It was a day trip to the south rim. You could get a permit from the Coconino NF for $1 to pick a tree. But trees that grow in such an arid clime are extremely tough. It would take better than an hour to cut one down with a bow saw. They also kept their needles for *years* after they were cut. I miss it.

And with all due respect to Mr. Taplin, that’s like arguing the comparative beauty of the moon and the stars.
